Classic Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2012

On March 11, 2012, a host of events culminated with the 17th annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. It was a perfect day for anyone who enjoys automobiles. Auctions, galas, seminars, dinners and much more kept everyone busy and generating lot’s of excitement leading up to the main event on Sunday. Opening the event was a vintage airplane fly-by as 23,000 spectators joined the field of nearly 300 magnificent cars at Amelia Island. Like clockwork, the skies turned blue over the host Ritz-Carlton for what is one of the most elegant and enjoyable Concours settings in America.

Two Best In Show honorees are selected each year at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, one from the Classic and one from the Sport categories. At the end of the day, it was the 1938 Bugatti Type 57 from the Off Brothers Collection that awarded the coveted Concours d'Elegance award and a 1962 Ferrari 330 LM took the Concours de Sport award.

For the Classic-minded, the 1938 Bugatti Type 57 is one of only three known Aravis Drophead Coupes bodied by Gangloff. This Type 57 arrived in the U.S. in 1961 and the Off Brothers Collection completed the full restoration in 2009. It is worth noting that the Type 57 Bugatti, produced from 1934 until 1939, was the world's fastest production cars manufactured before WWII.
