Roundup of the CCCA 60th Annual Meeting "Diamonds and Denim"
Hosted by the North Texas Region – January 4-7, 2012

Many thanks to the North Texas Region for its outstanding job hosting the 2012 Annual Meeting January 4-7, 2012 in Grapevine, Texas.

Activities began Wednesday, January 4 with a tour of nearby Ft. Worth, lunch at the Reata restaurant and a visit to the Sid Richardson Museum of Western Art. The opening-night welcome buffet was followed by socializing in the ever-popular hospitality room.

Regional Editors and Directors conducted business meetings Thursday morning before we all headed back to the Ft. Worth area for a tour (and lunch) at a fabulous private collection. Perfectly restored examples of Duesenberg, Packard, Cadillac, Marmon, Lincoln and Daimler were showcased in the main showroom. We were directed to the rear of the building for lunch only to discover more automotive treasures. Here were dozens of mid-century American marques along with a variety of racecars and a row of rare Ferraris and Aston Martins.

We then bused to the Ft. Worth stockyards for shopping and witnessed a cattle run down the center of Exchange Avenue. Dinner followed at Billy Bob’s along with line dancing for the brave.
Friday morning’s business was the annual membership meeting before departing for Sam Pack’s collection. Split between two very large buildings were literally hundreds of cars and Mr. Pack took time out of his busy day to chat with us.

Regional awards were presented at the Ranch Party Barn near the hotel that evening and the prestigious Classic Spirit Award was presented to Carol Bray of Michigan.

Saturday morning 31 Classics filled the hotel’s lower level and spectator interest was strong. The North Texas Region did an excellent job of publicizing our display by contacting many local car clubs and inviting them to view our Classics.

Later that day we stocked our wallets and purses in preparation for a visit to the flagship Neiman-Marcus store in Dallas. After lunch in the Zodiac room we visited our last collection at the home of Carol and John Riding Lee. Their home was a visual treat: an old Southwestern Bell Telephone building which had been converted to living space. Their automotive collection was equally impressive featuring race examples of Alfa-Romeo, Bugatti and Triumph.

Back at the hotel that evening, the day’s judging results were revealed and six Classics earned that perfect 100-point score. The Warshawsky Best of Show Award was presented to Steven Chapman’s 1940 Packard 1807 convertible sedan by Darrin. Our Club’s highest honor, the Citation for Distinguished Service was presented to Past President, original Webmaster and Area Head Judge Chuck Conrad for his many years of service to the CCCA.

Full coverage of the 2012 Annual Meeting including a listing of all Classic Car judging results, all Regional awards and photos of this four-day CCCA extravaganza will appear in the Spring issue of The Classic Car which mails the first week of March.
