Depends how long he wants to take selling it. I think it will probably find a home somewhere in the 30k range.
On the plus side it is a Stutz. On the minus side it is a short wheelbase standard open quarter sedan with a much older restoration.
This is a BB and not as nice, but the same body which sold for $12,500 at auction this fall. It was bought by a dealer who doubled the price.

Thanks for your opinion and the link. These will be helpful.

I agree with the above.....but think mid to upper 30’s, if your patient. I also predict when Covid is totally over a lot of cars are going to come on the market in the prices are gonna drop rather quick.
Great cars - you can haggle a little on price, but not sure I would let that get in my way as if you want a nice stutz (which this appears to very much be one) then beggars cannot be choosers as so few exist and not really worth your time to source another as doubt not too many comparable sedans survive that are better than this one - $42,500 and had better be capable of a hour long drive for that.
Misc:
Trippe lamps look to be juniors with all red badge-ing and non- senior brackets (if they have the pointy backshells then you can change a few parts arounfd to make seniors from juniors - ex. levels/top clip, repro emblems, and source senior brackets.
There may be two clips missing off back bumper that match those on front bumper ?
Plumbing on intake side of vacuum tank
Grab straps for rear sear are somewhat homemade
Real type cigar lighter is missing and also a dash knob
Most have some sort of adapted on carb, but that is for a reason as originals are near impossible
Spark plug wires look modern material
Needs pinstripped
And for fun of it:
Engines always look a lot better when not 100% black paint
Maybe a luggage trunk
Peter, wondering if you ended up buying the 29 Stutz and if you did you could offer me some "$ range" where you landed in the sale? I have come across one as well in very similar condition - same sedan/side mount model - not sure where to even to start on price with the seller as there are not many comparable Stutz cars on the market. Also I am a bit confused as the seller keeps referring to it as a Black Hawk although there is nothing on the car that says it is the Black Hawk - which I understand was also made by Stutz but a separate marque. The badge on the front says STUTZ 8 only. I suppose wheelbase would be a quick check as the BH is shorter? Also this one has a slight flare/indent that runs 12 inches up the middle of the front fender that acts as a style point. I don't have any good photos right now and didnt get the tag numbers yet...just dont know if these are 30K cars or 60K+ cars.

Actually, I was just asking for a friend who has the car. He still has it. Based on the above comments, I'd say my friend's car is definitely not a 60K car, likely somewhere near 30K.
I live in Alberta and get into Victoria/Van area every month. His car is actually nicer color combo than the brown one I am looking at. Would he be open to viewing/negotiating on the car? If you wouldn’t mind PM me…or I can send my contact details?
I have been looking for awhile for a Stutz, less concerned about body type and more inclined to color and overall appearance something that needs cosmetics here and there. Thanks Tyler

Any Stutz Vertical Eight is a interesting and worthwhile car. I would caution any buyer that the engine needs to be solid as a rebuild will be 30k and 2 years minimum as you can't hand it to the shop down the street.
The subject car of this thread would be fantastic with the wheels fixed. 3rd color light shaded rims with whitewalls is a crime against the color gods.
Very nice vehicle. I am also looking for a similar vehicle like this - Stutz Vertical Eight model M or SV16 for sale. I've been looking around for a while now, but no luck yet. I hope no one will be angry, but I also agree with Alsancle that it is not a car for everyone (duralumin connecting rods, worm gear, etc.)
