Did he possibly name it after a town. Beverly Hills?
I believe the Westchester was named for Westchester county, New York.
According to my friend the late Dick Meyer who had an "armchair Beverly" among other Cords, the Beverly was named for a well known country club,a fashion pioneered by Lozier with Briarcliff,Lakewood etc.
Snob value,he explained it to me.
As always,I claim no accuracy or responsibility for the above-mentioned lexicography and etymology.
I relate it as it was told to me. Caveat Lector..........

BoB: Concerning Cords using the name Beverly. Beverly refered to the style interior offered by Cord which was an armchair type interior with fixed arm rests armsrsets dividing the seats thus makeing it four passenger auto. The name Westchester refers to the other style interior that was offered by Cord, which was basically bench seats front and rear, offering six passenger seating. The best book to read about the Cord 810 and 812's titled CORD 810/812 The Timeless Classic by Josh B. Malks. . If you would like I could scan and send you a pictures of the Beverly and Westchester interiors. The interior ideas came from Buehrig's days from when he worked at Duesenberg.
Thank you for validating my post above................
OK thanks for that! Now please if you can tell us how the interior styles became known as Beverly and Westchester
Beverly maybe, but who would admit to a mistress by the name of Westchester?
Sorry, I digress.
From what information that I have the term Beverly was a certain body style built by Murphy and Rollston on Duesenberg chassis around 1930. The interior on of Buehrigs Duesenberg Murphy Beverly sedan had the fixed arm rest seat in the back seat of the interior. This rear interior design was later used by Buehrig for the interior design on the Cord. Being that Murphy was located in California maybe they named the body style after Beverly Hills. That is only an asumption by me. I can find no information how the Westchester name came about that Cord used for the other interior that they offered. The bottom line is that E.L.Cord had no girlfriends named Beverly or Westchester. Certainly this is more information than anyone else has been able to offer.
The bottom line is that we will likely never know...............
E.L. Cord lived in Beverly Hills, for whatever that adds to this discussion.
Isn't it also true that the difference between a Westchester and a Beverly is in the back end styling. The Beverly hasa bustle-back trunk, while the Westchester hasa slant-back???
I believe the diference is actually in the interior. The Beverly has an arm chair back seat, the Westchester has a bench seat. Some Beverly's also have an arm chair front seat. In 1937, the Beverly was available with the "Bussle Back" trunk lid to increase trunk capacity.
Gordon Beuhrig hated the Bussle Back. He thought it was ugly. If you've ever tried to put a suitcase in the trunk of a 1936 Cord, you understand why some the option came about. NOTHING fits!
